2017 Board Spotlight

Spotlight on Chapter Administrative Support

Who is that person that keeps sending you emails signed RachelFPAVta, the person on the other end of the line when you contact the chapter? Who belongs to the voice that calls to remind you that a quarterly meeting is coming up? Chapter Past President, Pete Kozak has referred to them as "the glue that holds the chapter together." They are the Chapter Administrative Support team of Rachel Barajas and Ethel Geary.

The volunteer board of officers and directors and the members themselves are the organization. However, those leaders change annually in a trade association and someone needs to provide the continuity, maintain the records, and be familiar with the procedures - all of which these two ladies do.

This duo has worked together since 1992, when after a career working in banking and medical offices, Rachel found herself at the door of Ethel's small company. Nearly ten years later, Ethel semi-retired and moved to Colorado (yes, she calls you from Colorado). Rachel, now an independent contractor stepped in to serve the clientele and has run her Secretarial Service in Santa Barbara since 2001. Among their specialties are running nonprofit trade and charitable organizations. Over the years they have "been the glue and support" for many organizations in various capacities from coordinating major events to taking on the Executive Director role for others.

Rachel prefers the title of administrative support rather than executive director it describes exactly what she does; support the Board members and committees in their various responsibilities - hopefully making their volunteer job a little easier. She does the paperwork, reminds (nags) officers and directors about what needs to be done, prepares for and attends meetings, sends notices, handles the website, newsletter, and any other paper pushing projects.

Rachel and Ethel enjoy working with the FPAVC and its members. They hope any member hesitant about serving on the board, fearful they may be overwhelmed by the added work and time, will rest assured that administrative support is available to make the job easier. They can help you fulfill and be successful in your leadership role!

Are you interested in serving on the board or helping with a committee? Contact Rachel, she'll answer any questions and set you on the path to a leadership role.

In March's newsletter we started this new "short survey" section. Unfortunately, initially the link did not work. As a result we only received three submissions,  Click here to see those responses. Thank you to those who participated or tried to participate.

I am including a link to both this month and last month's surveys. We hope you will take a moment to answer these short surveys and let the Board know your thoughts. We wouldn't ask if we didn't really want to know.

This month's questions are:

1.What is your satisfaction level with your Chapter experience vs your National Association experience?

2. Which social media platforms do you utilize most for your business?

3. Do you use Robo Advisor Tools and Software? If so, are you satisfied with its performance?

Click April Survey to fill out and submit your answers.

Last month's questions:

1. What were your reasons for joining FPA?

2. How likely would you be to participate in an online chapter webinar/meeting?
