2017 Board Spotlight

Spotlight on Chapter Treasurer

Financial DetectiveDon't mess with the Ventura Chapter's new Treasurer! Not long on the job and he gets an email from President John Buerger telling him to mail a check NOW to ... Only it wasn't from the President. Treasurer Richard "Dick" Womack was being scammed. Immediately recognizing the possibility he emailed the President who acknowledged it was not a message from him.

One thing that was unusual, the email address was that of John Buerger. The scammer showed the correct email address, but was able to redirect any responses. Tim Lohman, a detective with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department was contacted and agreed that it was unusual, but that the bad guys are getting better all the time. Detective Lohman had been a guest speaker at the Thousand Oaks Study Group just one week before the attempt.

Worthwhile Cause - Alzheimer's Walk

alz-awarenessAlmost everyone knows someone who has dealt with or had a family member diagnosed with Alzheimer's.  It is a devastating disease that takes a physical and emotional toll on the patient and has heartbreaking results for their family. As planners we see the financial toll it can also take when clients haven't prepared for what can be a very expensive long-term illness.  With the rise in Alzheimer cases and the far reaching effects in our community it is critical to bring awareness to this disease.

Over the next few months, the Alzheimer's Association is hosting "The Walk to End Alzheimer's" event.  There will be local Walk Teams set up in Thousand Oaks, Oxnard, Santa Barbara, Westlake Village, Camarillo, Santa Maria and many other cities. If you would like to join a team and participate this year click here for Teams in your area and Walk dates.  You can also help out by making a donation to a local team.

Whether you are walking in memory of or on behalf of a family member, a friend, a colleague or client, know that those who have who have had this disease impact their lives thank you for your support in helping to raise awareness and the all important funds needed to find a cure.
