2018 Board Elections

Spotlight in Leadership - Director-at-Large

altWhen Board of Directors member, Erik Dullenkopf, of Screaming Eagle Wealth Management talks about being a financial planner you know he is comfortable, knowledgeable and happy in his chosen profession.  A far cry from the UCSB graduate of ten years ago, armed with a business degree and no idea what to do with it.

Erik's father, then owner of Screaming Eagle Aviation in Santa Paula, encouraged him to obtain a business degree, but sadly, his father passed away before Erik graduated. At that point he had to decide without his father's sage advice what to do with his education. A chance meeting with a planner who took the time to explain in detail what the industry is about and how it helps people hit a nerve and Erik set out to earn his CFP®.

To reach the level of success that Erik enjoys today, he advises newcomers to thoroughly investigate the industry, and be sure it is where they want to go.  "Do the leg-work," he admonishes.  His success and that of the firm has no doubt been due in large part to the passion he feels for what he does and for the obvious sincerity he feels in meeting the needs of his clients.  He continues to learn and discern between the things you should and shouldn't do in this capacity, however, and being a member of FPA Ventura Chapter with access to networking and continuing education has presented many meaningful opportunities. Erik also serves on the Ventura County Chapter's Program Committee helping to obtain speakers for the quarterly education meetings.

Early on he discovered a need to be filled for engineers and geologists in the oil industry who are nearing retirement age.  Although Erik works with a smaller segment of what could be a very large clientele, it allows for in-depth attention and better service to each client. These are people who have worked hard and "we help streamline their financial well-being," Erik states.

Erik is a strong supporter of Be the Match, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program. This organization matches bone marrow donors with those patient in need of life-saving transplants.  He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Aviation Museum of Santa Paula.

This and That

Chapter Regional Discussion/Study Groups

altOur chapter has 4 regional areas in which we hold discussion/study group meetings. These gatherings are generally held in the mornings and run about 1 hour. Meetings can have a presenter speaking on a specific topic, can have an interesting article relevant to the profession, or they can include a roundtable session with members bringing up subjects that they would like input on from the group.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn, network, share and develope personal relationships with some of the nicest people you will meet.

For information on Discussion/Study Groups held in your area contact your Regional Coordinator:

 NexGen News

The Summitnexgen

The 3rd Annual SoCal Summit has come and gone, overall it went very well. There were excellent presentations with a lot of good information for young planners. Unfortunately, the Ventura Chapter had very few NexGenner members taking advantage of this awesome event designed and tailored to their needs.

The Mixer

Our Happy Hour Mixer was held on October 3rd at Five Threads in Westlake. It was a great spot and a few people showed. Hoping for a better turnout next time! Don't just be a joiner, be a participater you'll get more from your membership! Social events offer opportunity to share both work and life stories which will help build relationships within your industry. Oh and they're fun too!

Who and What is NexGen

According to our Association, "NexGen is intended to be a community of the next generation of financial planners." The NexGen Mission Statement is: "To ensure the transference of wisdom, tradition and integrity, from the pioneers of the financial planning to the next generation of our profession."
